Definitely one of the most popular 80's new wave anthems in the Philippines is Seona Dancing's MORE TO LOSE. In fact, in September 2008, WXB102 Internet radio (Manila's resurrected 1980's FM station that catered mainly to the new wave genre) made an online poll of "The Top 102 Songs of All Time" and "More to Lose" ended up taking the top spot (See the complete list posted by Dr. Stirring Rhod on his blog "The Doctor is In"). The group was composed of Ricky Gervais [the British comedian!!!] on vocals and Bill Macrae on Synthesizers. They only released two singles, 1. Bitter Heart and 2. More to Lose. So the megamix actually contains all of the tracks they've produced. For the reconstruction of the single version, I just edited the extended mix by rearranging the verses according to the original 7" version wherein the 1st verse starts with: "I was tired..." instead of "We used to cry..." (which was the first verse of the 12"er). Then, I also ended up doing an instrumental mix which was used by DJ Doc in his mash-up "Lose Your Song". As for the Evo-XR Extended remix, nothing fancy, just simply stretching out one of my fave tunes back in the day... well OK, up to now it's still among my top picks. Hope you check these out.

I've been looking for an official extended version for this one but I don't think there had been one. I got hold of the multitracks and played around with it. Voila! An Evo-XR treatment for this classic rock track. The part I loved putting together was from 1:10-1:24, then the first verse wherein I took out the snare drum and it just sounded right... well, for me, at least. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did making it.

WOW! It's been a year already since I've posted my Evo-XR treatments, my re-edits/remixes, that is. It was in October 25, 2008 when I published my eXtended Re-edit of New Year's Day. Among the requests of waversunite was "No Explanation". While the artist wasn't mentioned, I assumed it's the Steve Kilbey-penned song of The Church, one of my fave Oz bands. A simple mix stretched to 7 minutes using the original version from the EP/album "Remote Luxury". I don't think there was an official extended version released. Come to think of it, was there any official extended versions released by this band? What I know is that The Church still makes great music up to now.

This track is my favorite track next to Chant No. 1 from Spandau's Diamond LP. It was their sophomore album and the band displayed their funky sound along with some experimental synths. At first, while the first 5 tracks were easy to like, I thought that the last 3 songs from "Diamond" were kinda odd. But since my cassette player was on "auto-reverse" and "She Loved Like Diamond" was the track prior to the three, I've come to like the whole album after several playbacks. The sound of Gary's wailing guitar on this song, although quite simple and not like the fancy & explosive works of the guitar-gods, was somewhat hypnotic to me at that time. Sadly, it barely lasted for 3 minutes that yearning for a longer version has always been in my mind. Finally, an Evo-XR treatment is done and I'd like to thank AJWAVE and cispas for the Spandau shares of the extended and instrumental versions. CHEERS!!!

This one's been requested by Guillermo Burns back in July and he even provided the single and instrumental versions. Buddy, I know it's been a long time but hopefully you'll like this simple Evo-XR treatment of your favorite song. This track was included in the late John Hughes' classic 80's movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and I believe it was in the part where Ferris and company were looking at some interesting paintings in an art museum. While this song was written and originally done by The Smiths, The Dream Academy did a marvelous arrangement and came out a with a worthy alternative to the original. Hope you check it out. :)

In the music video of this song, Curt took the Austin-Healey 3000 sports car for a spin which somehow made me think it's cool playing this song while driving. Well, I don't have a sports car but listening to this made me feel like driving one, LOL. Come to think of it, my brother (who's passionate about car detailing) has done a good job of taking care of our old car (a 1979 Toyota Cressida) and here's a recent photo of it on the right.

Now, having done a 10 minute plus remix of this song by TFF really puts me in a good mood while cruisin' around the metro or the countryside. Cheers!!!

Among my vinyls, the EP of this song was the only one I kept ... or so I thought. While I gave away the rest to my cousins and friends, I decided to tuck this along with my dad's LP's. I've always hoped, and kept an eye out, for a CD release of this song. But up to now, I believe the great ol' vinyl single and EP releases were the only format available. Then about a few years ago, having not heard the song for a long time, I thought it'd be great if I could have someone record it on a CD. I looked for it in the attic of my parent's house but couldn't find it anywhere. Luckily, about a year ago, I found fellow bloggers who posted their rips. Having the digitized copies of the single and extended re-mix, I just had to do an Evo-XR treatment of this obscure new wave single. Hope you check it out.

Listening to this song especially while driving in the rain brings me back to my younger days. Ah, the good ol' carefree 80's. Since it's the wet or "rainy" season here in the Philippines, I thought I'd post this simple Evo-XR treatment I did with my favorite Gazebo song. I used the instrumental edit, 1994 portrait version, album version, and bits from the rain mix and extended club mix to stretch it to over 11 minutes. Enjoy!

This is the 1981 Tears for Fears debut single "Suffer The Children" (produced by David Lord) which was later re-recorded and included in their 1983 album "The Hurting" (produced by Chris Hughes & Ross Cullum). The earlier version featured the raw sound of the band as they were just starting to experiment on sequencers and drum machines at that time. After listening to the original version several times, I thought of stretching it a bit further. An Evo-XR treatment was done by mixing the original '81 remix, '81 instrumental and the '85 special promo versions.

I must thank (1) Marcel who posted the long out of print EP (never been available on CD or i-Tunes) on his cool blog; then (2) Analogue, a fellow member from Dirk's forum, for sharing the rare promo version released in 1985.

The theme of the song according to Sting:

The trio of Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland -- more popularly known as The Police, has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. Not much official extended versions of their songs were released and this is my third remix from their catalogue. This one's off the "Synchronicity" CD, their 5th and last full length studio album. A timeless masterpiece and is one of the greatest rock albums of all time.

The Alarm's "Electric Folklore, Live" showcased the amazing energy emanating from this band when they perform live. Among their songs included in that live album, "Rescue Me" (originally from the studio album "Eye of the Hurricane") has got to be the stand out. An Evo-XR treatment was done using Mike Peters' Acoustic version, The Alarm's Tearing the Bonds Asunder Mix and album version.

This is the track that made me check out "The Seven and the Ragged Tiger" album. While "The Reflex" and "Union of the Snake" from the same LP were more successful, "New Moon on Monday" remained as my favorite tune from the fab five. I was able to get an Indonesian bootleg cassette containing a collection of Duran Duran remixes in 1986. Upon hearing the extended mix of this track, I was blown away that I must have worn out the tape in less than a month. No vinyl copy was available in the record stores in Manila that I've been to at that time. Not even sure if the extended version was officially released locally. Then, about a year later, I've come across an exact, new copy of the imported bootleg cassette in a small bookstore in the countryside. Bought it immediately and made sure it was kept in pristine condition. But, as you know it, the sound of cassette tapes deteriorates even with the best of care. Then...

Fast forward to 1998 when I saw the CD "Night Versions: The Essential Duran Duran". Grabbed the item right away only to be a little disappointed because "New Moon..." was on the enhanced second disc and was in low-fi MONO!!! Then, a year later (again)... the 2-disc album "Strange Behaviour" was released. This time, "New Moon..." has been included along with the other remixes of the band. In the wink of an eye, I purchased the compilation and sold the "Night Versions CD" the following week.

These things I have mentioned in order to give you an idea how much this song means to me... and while it took me some time to give it an Evo-XR treatment, I'm quite happy with the end result. I used the extended and album versions to stretch the mix to over 8 minutes. Enjoy!

This Canadian band was one of those who've been compared to Duran Duran in the mid-80's. I had album "Thin Red Line" both in vinyl and cassette back then. It's one of those albums that I could listen to from beginning to end. However, I wasn't able to check out their succeeding albums as the singles that followed didn't receive much commercial success compared to the ones released from their debut LP. It was only in 1995 that I was able to hear their other songs when I got "The Best of Glass Tiger: Air Time" CD... and it's a great compilation! Their debut single: "Don't Forget Me (When I'm Gone)" has been given the Evo-XR treatment wherein I used the Extended Club Mix, the Death Mix, and the Album version to stretch the playing time to over 9 minutes. Enjoy! :)

Addictive... this is what I can say about hits coming from this group. They have a winning formula that their fans never get tired of. This is a great song from PM. It was the only top ten single from their out-of-print self-titled album released in 1988. I've been looking for a 12" version of this song everywhere but to no avail. So, the moment I found out about sound editing thru my Roxio program, the first project that popped in my mind was to do an eXtended Re-edit of this song. There have been many revisions and it has EVOlved into this final version. Hope you'll like it. :)

In 1988, Three O'Clock made their last album "Vermillion" under Prince's Paisley Park Records. While their previous albums brought minor success to the band, even with the inclusion of a Prince-penned upbeat song "Neon Telephone" (under the pseudonym "Joey Coco") , the Ian Richie-produced album failed to chart. It's been described as a kind of bubblegummy-pop, and was somewhat a deviation from the psychedelic rock sound that their fans were used to. However, the 7th track from the album -- "On Paper" has been a personal favorite and an Evo-XR treatment was already in the works since last year but the early versions were not up to my liking. It was only a few weeks ago that I've come to finalize my re-edit... and here it is. Enjoy!

I treasure the eponymous album of Living In A Box that I bought their follow-up album "Gatecrashing" even if I haven't heard a single song in it. Very much pleased with its entire selection, the track that really struck me was "Room in your Heart". At that time, it was only "Blow the House Down" that has been released as a single. After a few months, a friend of mine borrowed it and unfortunately, lost it somewhere. But he was kind enough to replace it with a new one. Actually, the one he gave me was a repackaged edition which featured the 7" single version of "Room in your Heart" (which was already moving up the UK charts then) instead of the original album version. The single version is far better in my opinion and it became the most popular track from the 2nd LP. Richard Darbyshire's soulful voice is amazingly great along with his guitar playing, as are Marcus Vere on synthesizers and Anthony "Tich" Critchlow on drums. It's just too sad that they broke up before they were able to put out a third album.

This has to be one of the best love songs out there and would be appropriate for the love month of February. So here's my re-edit, wherein I used both the single and album versions.

Mike Francis (born Francesco Puccioni in Italy) was, and still is, close to the hearts of his countless Filipino fans who loves his hits like "Let Me In", "Features of Love", "Survivor", "Together", "Friends", among others. He had successful concerts here in the Philippines and even included a track about the country's most famous tourist destination, which he titled "Moonlight In Boracay", in his "Very Best, Live!" CD released locally by BMG Pilipinas in 1994.

On January 30, 2009, he passed away due to a lingering illness. He was 47. We will surely miss this great Italian music artist. May he rest in peace.

I was re-editing Living In A Box's "Room In Your Heart" when I heard about his demise. Realizing that he made a cover version of this song (included in his 1999 album "All Rooms with a View"), doing an Evo-XR treatment of his version came to mind. So, here it is.

One of the coolest and distinct vocals from the new wave era belongs to Geoff Barradale of Vitamin Z. This single made the group popular when it was released in 1985. I remember thinking back then that the intro of the song was a little bit similar to Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis' Eyes", also a great 80's hit. Here's my re-edit to this classic track.

While this track may be considered a flop compared to the other singles released by this great synthpop band, this is still my favorite Blancmange song. Well, it had a lot to do with the music video which featured Neil Arthur and Stephen Luscombe trashing just about every furniture or thing they could get their hands on in the house. Also, there's the twirling foot of Neil and the funny "raised eyebrow" look on Stephen's face. Humor was injected into this break-up song and while it may seem cathartic in dealing with the anger and regret for a love lost, it's also a tad violent for the little tykes (Wouldn't want to see them smashing things left and right, do you?). The song's chorus lingered in my mind for days after watching the video from a local show called "Eurorock" (in the mid-80's) that I went to the music store a week after to buy the single or album. The store clerk didn't have a clue about the artist or song even after I sang it to her... errr, maybe I didn't sing it right... OK, I was out of tune... and annoying, perhaps...but I was really desperate to have it. Kinda pathetic, huh? After months of searching, a friend gave me a cassette copy recorded from vinyl. Come to think of it, I believe I still have that tape.

The original Q project was composed of Stacey Swain as lead singer, Jon St. James on guitars, and Dan Van Patten and John Van Tongeren on vocoder and synthesizer. In 1982 the band reformed with two new members, drummer Karl Moet and synth player Rich West, alongside the official lineup of Van Tongeren, St. James and Swain. After the reformation, St. James was forced to change the name of Q because of copyright problems (famed producer Quincy Jones reportedly had "established use of the 'Q' moniker"). Swain explained in a 2006 radio interview that the band was renamed SSQ after Jon St. James "was fishing in a lake 'no bigger than a bathtub' and made a joke that the boat was the 'S.S. Q,'" referring to the current band Q. St. James had another reason for the name: "SS" stood for "Stacey Swain", who had become the most recognized of the band's members.

From the synth band SSQ way back in 1983. Not really a big hit but I really like this song and remember playing it again and again back in the day. The band's music videos helped lead vocalist Stacey Swain become popular, eclipsing other members of the band. In 1985, Stacey released her solo album as "Stacey Q" (remember "Two of Hearts", in 1986?) with her SSQ bandmates as musicians. Well, here's my re-edit of Synthicide. Hope you check it out.

This is a photo from NASA of our dear planet Earth, the third rock from the sun. Seems peaceful, doesn't it? However, reality check reminds us that war, or conflicts do exist. Still, I believe everyone is fervently praying or wishing for everlasting peace on earth. Well, it's the holiday season and the yearning for peace at this time of the year echoes in every corner of the world. In line with this, I'd like to share a music video (uploaded at YouTube by gferdinandus6) of Paul McCartney's "Pipes of Peace" which depicted a Christmas truce between British and German troops at war in 1914. Sir Paul played dual roles, that of a British and German Military Officer, who meet up in No Man's Land and exchange photos of their loved ones while the soldiers from both sides fraternize and play football. When a shell blast forces the two armies to retreat to their own trenches both men realize that they still have each other's pictures.

This has been a personal favorite of mine especially during Christmas time since I saw this video from my childhood days. Check it out.

One of the best Synth Pop bands + famous producers of Minneapolis Sound = Crash LP. While the working relationship of the band and the producers "crashed" towards the latter part of the project, the release of the single "Human", composed by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, somehow helped ease the tension much later on. The first single from the album zoomed to the number one spot of U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at the time of its release in 1986. It brought back the band to mainstream popularity 5 years after the release of their classic synth album "Dare".

Human (The Chinese Whispers Mix) was released in Asia in 2003 which featured the voice of Li Ya singing the chorus in Cantonese.

In hindsight, Oakley admitted that the "Crash" LP saved the band's career. Does that mean they've "forgiven" Jam and Lewis for taking full control of the album's production? I certainly hope so. So, just in case you don't like this re-edit, I hope you forgive me too. My bad. Otherwise, enjoy. :)

The "night versions" of the fab five's hits were much sought after by dance clubs in the eighties. Since this song didn't have an official extended version (well, the monster mix was actually more of a dub mix), I patterned this re-edit to the arrangement of a "night version" (starting with a long instrumental part before the vocals set in). The result is a simple remix stretched to about 8 minutes and 9 seconds.
